Cosmetic Dentistry in Collingwood Park

It’s often been said that your best accessory is your smile. Why not make yours stunning? At Collingwood Park Dental, we offer a variety of smile-enhancing services to give you the bright and beautiful smile you’ve always wanted. These include

Bridges

A fixed dental bridge, which is made of two crowns on either side of a missing tooth, is connected to an artificial tooth in the middle. These three “teeth” form the “bridge” that is matched to the colour of your teeth and then cemented into place.

 Crowns

These custom-made covers for teeth are ideal if you have a cracked, worn or weakened tooth. They are also typically used after a root canal. We can show you what you’ll look like with the crown before we begin.

 Implants

As an alternative to dentures and bridges, dental implants look natural and can last for a long time. They are made of a titanium screw and a post that is covered with a crown, bridge or denture.

 In-chair whitening

Get a gorgeous megawatt smile with in-chair whitening. Erase years of stains and get better results than you would with drugstore whitening options.

 Inlays and onlays

Inlays and onlays are used to repair decay on the chewing surfaces of your rear teeth (molars). They also can be used to repair teeth that don’t have enough damage to apply a crown. They are made from tooth-coloured porcelain, composite resin or even gold.

 Orthodontics

We offer orthodontic services to help you achieve a straighter smile.

 Veneers

If you have teeth that are crooked, chipped, gapped, stained or misshapen, you may be an ideal candidate for porcelain veneers. These custom-fitted “shells” are applied and bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth in your smile “zone.”

Do you hesitate to smile due to teeth that are chipped, crooked, gapped, stained or misshapen? If yes, then porcelain veneers may be right for you. These custom-fitted “shells” are applied and fused to the front surfaces of the teeth in what’s called the “smile zone.” Thanks to the state-of-the-art CEREC machine at Collingwood Park Dental, we can fit veneers on the same day, saving you time.

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

These veneers offer an array of benefits. Veneers

  • Look natural and are more affordable than crowns
  • Protect the damaged teeth that they cover
  • Require just a minimal amount of the tooth enamel to be removed
  • Are highly durable and resist stains
  • Can last for a decade or longer provided you take care of them
  • Involve little discomfort during the procedure

What Does the Process Involve?

A consultation with one of our dentists is the first step in the process. Your dentist will ask you what you want to achieve regarding your smile’s appearance. You’ll know whether veneers are suitable for your teeth. If your dentist thinks that they are, the ideal colour match for your teeth will be determined.

To prep your teeth for your veneers, your dentist will lightly sand the enamel on the teeth. This step in the process is essential because the same tooth thickness must be maintained. We then will take an impression of your teeth so the veneers can be crafted for an impeccable fit.

One of the last steps is cleaning your teeth using a solution before we apply a tooth-coloured bonding cement. This material is applied to the veneers to secure them in place. As the final step in the process, your veneers will be polished to seamlessly blend in with your other teeth.

A whiter, brighter smile shows the world you’re confident! At Collingwood Park Dental, we offer two types of whitening services to give you a gorgeous, camera-ready smile.

 In-chair Whitening

After the initial consultation and before your treatment begins, you will need to purchase tooth mousse (available in the office) to use two weeks before whitening. The purpose is to hydrate your teeth and prevent sensitivity.

You will be treated with the powerful opalescence whitening system for 50 minutes. A dramatic difference will be seen straightaway.

Typically costing more than $900, the system is available at the practice at a special price of just $550. In addition to your in-chair sessions, you will be given bleaching trays and medicaments to use it at home.

At-home whitening

For only $250, you can achieve brilliant results at home as well with our home whitening option. You will receive two bleaching medicaments and custom-made trays. Your dentist will provide complete instructions on how to use the whitening system at home.

Help Wanted: Seeking Repair of Damaged Teeth

There are so many procedures that repair damaged teeth today. So how do you choose? With the help of our knowledgeable and friendly dental staff here at Collingwood Park Dental, that’s how!

We are only too happy to provide you with a number of alternatives to treat your specific condition. To arrange a consultation, please call our office, and get ready to explore all your options for decayed, damaged, chipped, broken, uneven and worn teeth! We have lots of choices to offer!

Inlays, Onlays – What’s the Difference?

You may have heard of dental inlays and onlays – but do you know what they are? Inlays and onlays are used to repair decay on the chewing surfaces of your rear teeth (molars). They can also be used to repair teeth that don’t have enough damage to apply a crown.

Inlays and onlays are made from tooth-colored porcelain, composite resin or even gold! Inlays are custom-fitted to repair decay or damage in the ridges of the teeth; onlays, also custom-fitted, are used to repair decay and damage that occurs on more than one cusp (point) of the tooth. Each tooth has four points or cusps.

Inlays and onlays look very natural, so no one even knows they’re not your real teeth! They are also strong and durable – necessary qualities for those busy back molars!

Dental Bonding – Filling in the Gaps

You know that space between your two front teeth – the one you’ve had for as long as you can remember? At Collingwood Park Dental we can make that space disappear – painlessly and effortlessly right here in our office.

We can also fix chipped teeth and cracked teeth using the same procedure. How? With dental bonding, a simple procedure that adds tooth-colored material to your own tooth so it looks natural and blends right in.

How Is Bonding Material Applied?

The doctor first isolates the tooth or teeth that need to be bonded. Next, a gentle phosphoric acid compound is applied to the tooth for only 15 seconds to ready the tooth for bonding. The phosphoric acid does not cause any discomfort and it is a necessary step to ensure that the bonding resin material will adhere properly to the tooth surface.

The next step is the application of the liquid bonding resin. This is a putty-like compound, matched to your natural tooth color, that is applied in layers to the tooth surface, shaped properly to match the other teeth and then “cured” with a special blue light. The resin is applied in several layers and sculpted until the tooth is the right shape and thickness.

The final step involves smoothing, buffing and polishing the bonded tooth so it looks natural and blends nicely with nearby teeth.

Is Tooth Bonding Permanent?

Tooth bonding generally lasts from seven to 10 years with proper daily dental hygiene and regular checkups. Bonded teeth need to be checked periodically due to wear and aging or the need to be redone. Bonded teeth also tend to stain more easily.

All About Crowns

Crowns, or “caps” as some call them, are custom-made covers for teeth that have had a root canal (leaving very little tooth structure), cracked or weakened teeth or teeth that are so decayed that a regular filling isn’t sufficient.

Generally, we use a porcelain material to make the crown because it blends best with your other teeth. It takes two appointments to fit a crown at Collingwood Park Dental.

At the first appointment, we prepare the tooth by making it small enough for the crown to fit over it. Next, we mold an impression of the tooth so that the crown fits between the teeth on either side of it and is basically the same size and shape as the one being capped. At the end of this visit, we attach a temporary crown to protect the tooth until the permanent crown is ready.

At the second visit, we cement the permanent crown and make sure that it feels comfortable and natural and that your bite is correct. That’s it!

How long does it last? Your crown should last a lifetime with proper oral hygiene and routine dental examinations and cleanings.
